Speed, power and storage capacity that can compete with some of the top models of office top, throw in the portability factor and it a mild understatement. You do not need a large office above for a powerful computer to manage your home recording studio.
Laptops in general have become very powerful in the last couple of years and now there are some models that are designed specifically for us music makers. It also means your headaches and hardware compatibility issues are gone.
What made this not-so attractive to me at first was the portability of it as I travel a bit and the idea of sitting in an airplane or hotel and work on the arrangement of a song or combination has been released.
You can also take your home studio to another home or I was not able to do at home. Then, you simply pack your laptop and go plug it into your own home studio with all these new songs to play with.
What laptop?
The choice for PC users has come to this: Intel Core 2 Duo Pro. Fortunately for us they have tweeked the laptops and made real music production machines to high performance. The key point here is the Intel Core Duo CPU processors. Yup, two processors to make these laptops run much faster than any powerful office in early May that you are using.
Everything from the CPU to the FireWire card to the optical mouse has been designed to make these phones a high Powered Machine recording studio. No need to worry on the model or chipset if you have the right sound card anymore. Take it out of the box and hook it up and start recording … really. Mac
Same thing applies to macs. The new PowerBooks have Intel Mac Core 2 Duo as well, making them faster than anything we've seen yet. It is really amazing just 1 cm thick and up to 4 GB memory and 250 Gig hard drives. Two sessions of your CPU will not get bogged down in speed or freezing. Applications like Final Cut Pro or other video editing benefit two processors.
Considering such features and their portability and space little use on your desktop, anywhere How amateur home recording studio would be crazy to think, even on a Big Ol 'Desk Top anymore.
