Help I'm wanting to become a recording artist, I sing, write and play the piano, where do I start?

I was singing since I was about 5 years. I wanted to try American Idol, but I'm afraid to take time out of college (where I ended up being stranded in the music, I'll have a backup plan). I'd love to be a recording artist I play the piano, writing my own lyrics and singing. I had private lessons, have been in various choirs over my life and the love of a wide variety of genres. I especially industrial / hard rock / goth-rock-Evanescence or Lacuna Coil would be my ideal scene. I have no idea where to look for a label or some something like … sites online claim they will send my demo to the 'big guys', if I pay them, and I do not want to be a victim scam … Does anyone have any idea where these people like Amy Lee and Cristina Scabbia earned their way to glory, so I can follow a similar path? Or, simply the sum of all this, how can I get a hold of a recording studio or presenting a demo to be reviewed / published by company?

The best thing to do is register by playing the piano while singing your own songs. Record your voice in a wide range genres rather than just what you'd like to. Since you can play, sing and write it in May to make things easier for you since your songs may be accepted, even if you do not. Then find yourself a good agent that you can meet in person, talk and see how they would be able to distribute to others. Most labels will not stuff you submit to them, what must be done correctly. Wind Up (Who are Evanescence) are like that and it will destroy your hardware. Your best options with respect is to find the record groups as you like and check website that the record companies on their communication policy. Check the source because it will give you an example of what to expect if you send in material unsolicated. Label Lacuna Coil (Century Media) you can just display things in them so it is important that you check the label Web sites for their policies.
